Sam’s Wish Fund at Kids Path Of Hospice is a special fund set aside to make dreams come true for Kids Path children and their families. It’s available through the amazing generosity of our community, and named in memory of Samantha Harvell – a teenager whose remarkable spirit and courage through adversity inspired everyone who was privileged to be part of her life. Sam died on November 15, 2008 at the age of 15…but her spirit lives on through this fund!
The fund was established in 2009 by the efforts of “The Tricky Ricky Memorial Ride.” A local bike ride (in memory of Ricky Shambley) and outdoor concert, which raised money for children with terminal illnesses, TRR and Hospice teamed together, to create “Sam’s Wish Fund at Kids Path of Hospice. Through the generosity of participants, businesses and the community, the event has been the main source of fundraising for the fund for the past 9 years. Individuals and businesses, who believe in the ministry of Kids Path, give generously of monetary donations or in-kind donations that are raffled or auctioned off during the event. In turn, thousands of dollars are raised to fund these special children’s dreams and medical needs.
We’ve made family vacations come true; TVs, laptops, art supplies, literacy materials, toys and other electronics; play equipment; and the list goes on. The wishes come true for any Kids Path patient by Kids Path staff, and of course all donations to the fund are fully tax-deductible as permitted by law. Sam’s Wish Fund and Kids Path of Hospice cares for children in Alamance, Orange, Chatham and Caswell Counties. The special use fund is available outside of these counties for children in Hospice care when special circumstances arise.
This year, the 11th annual Tricky Ricky Memorial Ride will benefit not only Sam’s Wish Fund but also, Kids Path of Hospice. Kids Path of Hospice is instrumental in the lives of children in hospice care. Through the work of Kids Path children receive a wide range of in-home medical services for children with serious and life threatening conditions. The program also provides counseling support for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Together, Kids Path and Sam’s Wish Fund provide care, support and hope for children in hospice care.
