About

The Tricky Ricky Ride & Music Festival is an annual two-part community event established in 2006. The event was founded by Douglas Shambley in memory of his brother, “Tricky” Ricky Shambley. For two decades, the ride has helped raise funds and awareness for children diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses and those who are medically fragile. The day begins with the Tricky Ricky Ride, which departs from 3 Stooges Cycles in Elon, North Carolina. Riders travel throughout Alamance County and surrounding communities, with planned stops along the route before returning to the festival grounds on Shallowford Church Road in Elon.

At the conclusion of the ride, the event hosts the Rider’s Welcome; one of the most powerful and emotional moments of the day. Children who have received wishes, families, AuthoraCare staff, volunteers, and community members gather together to welcome the riders back as they arrive at the festival grounds. During this time, we honor children whose wishes have been granted, remember those who are no longer with us, and celebrate the families whose lives have been touched through Sam’s Wish Fund and Kids Path. This moment also serves as a heartfelt thank you to the riders who have made this event possible for nearly two decades. Their dedication, compassion, and unwavering support are the driving force behind the Tricky Ricky Ride. Year after year, these riders return not just for the ride itself, but for the children and families who depend on the generosity and spirit of this community.

The Rider’s Welcome is a powerful visual reminder of why the ride continues — because of the riders’ commitment, the families we serve, and the belief that together we can bring hope, joy, and support to children facing unimaginable medical challenges.Following the ride, the Tricky Ricky Music Festival begins later in the afternoon. Festival gates open at 2:30 PM in Elon, North Carolina, and the event continues throughout the evening with live music from several bands, silent and live auctions, raffles, vendors, food trucks, and on-stage entertainment.

One of the most special parts of the festival is when children served by Kids Path have the opportunity to participate. Some share their wishes with the audience, while others join local musicians on stage to sing, perform, or simply enjoy the experience. We invite local businesses and community partners to join us in making this event possible. Sponsorship offers an opportunity to promote your business while supporting two incredible causes, Sam’s Wish Fund and Kids Path of AuthoraCare.

Kids Path of AuthoraCare serves children and families across numerous counties including Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Durham, Forsyth, Guilford, Orange, Person, Randolph, Rockingham, and Stokes, and also assists families outside these areas when special circumstances arise.

The Tricky Ricky Ride & Music Festival provides an excellent opportunity for businesses to gain exposure to participants and supporters from across the region while helping raise awareness and funding for children’s hospice care.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families facing serious illness.

The mission of the Tricky Ricky Ride & Music Festival is to partner with the community to support Sam’s Wish Fund at Kids Path of AuthoraCare. Through fundraising and awareness, the event helps grant wishes and provide support for children diagnosed with serious, life-limiting illnesses and those who are medically fragile.

This effort also helps raise awareness about the important services provided by Kids Path of AuthoraCare, which offers medical care, grief support, and compassionate services for seriously ill children and their families.
